Samsung Galaxy Fold 4

The Galaxy Fold 4 returns in its mostly older design, with a 7.6-inch AMOLED display, but with slightly smaller bezels this time around. Samsung is calling the new display AMOLED 2X with a slightly different resolution at 2316 x 904 pixels. As you can see below, from the spec sheet, the phone has all the bells and whistles expected from a flagship. The phone also has a slight change in the aspect ratio, which makes it taller vertically and less wide horizontally. Samsung claims the curved screen inside is now up to 45 percent stronger, using an enhanced adhesive on top of the PET screen protector. The previous Fold phones had a problem with the outer layer slightly rising up with continued use, so the new adhesive tech should help with that. The outer hinge has also undergone a slight reduction.  One of the most significant upgrades could be found on the camera front, with all new sensors, including a new 50MP main lens. Even the telephoto lens got a decent upgrade with 3x zoom, compared to 2x zoom on the previous Fold 3. The only downside, which also continues from last year, is the selfie camera, which is an under display one. From early samples, it’s clear the tech is still sometime away from maturing and the poor performance continues from the previous Fold 3.  Coming to the outer display, its dimensions are unchanged, coming in at 6.2-inches, with a resolution of 2316 x 904 pixels, complete with a 120Hz refresh rate.  The best and the worst part about the phone is the price. The best part being the unchanged launch price of  $1,799, similar to the Fold 3. The $1,799 tag is also the worst part, as it only makes sense for people with very specific use cases or early tech adopters, for everyone else there are still far better refined options for the price.

Samsung Galaxy Flip 4

And finally, coming to the cheaper Galaxy Flip 4, this too sees incremental upgrades from last year. One of the biggest gripes with last year’s Galaxy Flip 3 was the battery and camera. And thankfully Samsung has addressed them both with the Flip 4, somewhat! The Galaxy Flip 4 now comes with a bigger 3700mAh battery, and better cameras too with a 12MP main lens, and larger pixel sensor size at 1.8 microns. Another great addition is the introduction of 25W fast charging which was lacking in the previous flip phones.  One of the important aspects of the Flip series is the small display on the front. While the front display size is unchanged on the Flip 4, there are a lot more features for it this time around. For example Samsung has introduced quick replies to text from the outer screen, even with the added ability to make phone calls or take pictures. Even the inner folding display is very nifty, with a new flex mode feature where users are able to split apps between the two folds and use the bottom half of the screen as a trackpad. Again, the usual hardware specs are what you would expect from a flagship with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. The inner display sports a 6.7-inch FHD AMOLED, with 2640 x 1080 pixels resolution.  Like with the Fold 4, even the Flip 4 mimics last year’s pricing coming in at $999. For this price, the phone can actually be a decent buy for people who have a thing for flip phones or someone who values compactness very highly as a factor.
