The Qualcomm Snapdragon G3X Gen 1 system-on-chip, which is specifically intended for portable gaming devices, will be used by the Razer Edge 5G gaming console. The only thing we are certain of is that the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 Gaming Platform supports gaming at up to 4K resolution at up to 144 frames per second, rendering in 10-bit HDR, Wi-Fi 6E, and 5G (including both sub-6GHz and 5G mmWave connectivity). Qualcomm introduced the anticipated SoC a little less than a year ago but has yet to reveal its specifications. A 4K TV or display can also be connected to the platform using a USB-C port, as can an XR attachment. It’s unclear whether the Razer Edge 5G is based on the reference software developer kit that Razer created for Qualcomm which features a 6.65-inch Full HD+ OLED display. Gaming mouse, keyboards, audio gear, and other PC hardware accessories are among the Razer’s most popular products. It has significantly expanded its product categories in the last 10 years, giving consumers products including laptops, desktops, displays, and even tools for content makers. It sounds like the ideal company to add a gaming portable to its roster, especially given that it already creates a well-liked mobile gaming controller for Android and iOS smartphones. Recently, Logitech launched the G Cloud Gaming Handheld which also focuses on cloud gaming. Along with Logitech, less popular companies such as AYANEO and Onexplayer also unveiled their new lineup of handheld consoles. Rapid releases from companies clearly depict that market has a huge potential for handhelds and companies are determined to capture their shares which is a positive aspect going forward. At its RazerCon gathering on October 15, Razer intends to provide additional information regarding its Razer Edge 5G gaming system.
