Although you still have to wait until November 3rd to sign up for or change to this tier, the business has officially released the specifics of this new Netflix tier. In the United States, you should be prepared to pay $6.99 per month for the Netflix Basics with Ads plan. The identical plan is available in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, and the UK, for people who are curious about different locations. Additionally, Netflix has affirmed that there would be no changes to the current plans or members in any way. Only the existing Basic, Standard, and Premium plans will replace the new tier. Now, it should not come as a surprise that Netflix has also stated that there would be certain differences if you choose the Basic with Ads plan. First and foremost, you will continue to have access to a range of TV shows, films, and individualised viewing experiences. The video quality will be up to 720/HD with the new Netflix package, though, and you’ll get 4 to 5 advertisements on average each hour. Additionally, while Netflix is trying to address licencing limitations, a small number of TV episodes and movies won’t be accessible, and you won’t be able to download items. Netflix describes it ad-tier support as follow:
Ad Format: At launch, ads will be 15 or 30 seconds in length, which will play before and during shows and films. Advertiser Controls: To help advertisers reach the right audience — and ensure our ads are more relevant for consumers — we’ll offer broad targeting capabilities by country and genre (e.g. action, drama, romance, sci-fi). Advertisers will also be able to prevent their ads from appearing on content that might be inconsistent with their brand (e.g. sex, nudity or graphic violence). Verification Tools: We have partnerships with DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science to verify the viewability and traffic validity of our ads starting in Q1 2023. Audience Measurement: To enable advertisers to understand how Netflix can reach their target audience, Nielsen will use its Digital Ad Ratings (DAR) in the U.S. This will become available sometime in 2023 and eventually be reported through Nielsen ONE Ads.
As previously mentioned, the new Netflix plan will be on sale on November 3rd, 2022, for just $6.99, and it will be available in a total of 12 countries. The ad-supported tier is an interesting addition from Netflix judging by the announcement of declined earnings within the company.
