The Ryzen 9 7900X
The Ryzen 9 7900X is the second fastest offering from AMD’s Zen4 lineup packed with 12 cores / 24 threads. The CPU clocks at 4.7GHz out of the box, however, this can be boosted up to a massive 5.6GHz across a single core. In the cache department, the CPU packs 76MB of cache (64MB L3 + 12MB L2). All yours for $549 starting from the 27th of September.
Test Bench
The test bench today features the GIGABYTE X670E AORUS MASTER motherboard paired with 32GB of DDR5 memory. The Windows 11 OS was used for this test along with a ‘balanced’ power plan.
The Performance
Coming to the performance numbers, the R9 7900X scores 2167 points and 18622 points in single core and multi core testing. To put this into perspective, take a look at the relative performance chart below: The CPU is almost 80% faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X from last-Gen. At a more level playing field, this CPU is actually faster than Intel’s upcoming 13700K in single-core testing. However, team blue flexes its muscles in the multi-core department powered by its e-cores. The 7900X happens to be slower than the 7700X in single-core testing. This discrepancy can however be overlooked.
Conclusion
Priced at $549, you indeed are getting a bang for the buck. Although, Intel’s i7-13700K on launch may turn out to be faster. The most accurate single core test should be gaming and only then we will see which company takes the crown this year.
